Here’s a great video!

The Best Alzheimer's video

This video came from AuthorEllenbogen

Here’s what she says:

No one wants to talk about this disease. The people directly impacted by this disease do nothing because they are overwhelmed dealing with the disease. Alzheimer’s disease impacts so many aspects of people’s lives, careers, hobbies and the many things we take for granted each day. Most patients find it difficult to learn something new, which ends up creating many issues for the patient and family. Most patients die within 4-8 years of diagnosis. There are no survivors of Alzheimer’s disease. Why are stars or famous people not proud to stand up and support this cause? There is no pretty outcome, but that is why their help is needed.

Update

Phyllis, Abby and I didn’t do Pleasant mountain on Saturday but did Bald Pate instead. Went all the way to summit and got back just in time to avoid rain. We had a nice picnic lunch on the way. Got no Ticks! Nice walk and great to travel Bald Pate again.

Tony loaned me his book, “Nice Work” by David Lodge, a British novelist. It’s an amusing encounter between a nervous conservative factory manager and a leftist artsy academic woman. She’s in a government program to “shadow” the factory manager for better academic and industrial communications.

Slept better the last two days but still have the big D. You know, diarrhea? Ursula at church told me I was too skinny and that I should eat more “fat”. Perhaps she’s right. I tried to eat more yesterday, including a Klondike.

I came across the following on Henry Stapp’s Wiki:

Stapp favours the idea that quantum waves collapse only when they interact with consciousness. He argues that quantum waves collapse when intelligent brains select one among the alternative quantum possibilities as a basis for future action.

This seems crazy at first glance, but here’s a further sentence from his Wiki:

Stapp postulates more global collapse via his ‘mind like’ wave-function collapse that exploits certain aspects of the quantum Zeno effect within the synapses to explain attention.

If you check out the above link to the quantum Zeno effect, you find something strange indeed. Say no more! Except the effect is related to the Turing paradox!

Over and out for now.

Oh, before I go, here’s another link: Physics and Whitehead Workshop.

Almost invariably when I check Psybertron I find something that fascinates me. Today his reference to the book Mindful Universe by Henry Stapp, started me on a search for explanations. There are several Youtubes of Henry Stapp trying to explain his theory, and a fascinating but very hard for me to follow, debate between Stapp and Matthew J. Donald. So, what is he basically trying to say? He’s making a connection between quantum theory, eastern mysticism, and the mind-body problem, if I have that right and not oversimplified it too much. Another related link I found is a long talk by Carlo Rovelli,”Science is not About Certainty: A Philosophy of Physics”.

My work is cut out if I want to understand any of this.

I finished the church website: norwayuu.org

I’m still having a hell of a time sleeping.

My Colitis is under control I think, with the meds, but last night I had a sour stomach.

I read “Cutting for Stone” by Abraham Verghese. Very exciting long novel.

I read Julian Barnes’ “The Sense of an Ending”. It won the Man-Booker prize this year. John Kelly recommended it to me.

I read “The Children’s Book” by A.S. Byatt. A beautiful long book. I fell in love with the characters.

Before that, I read “The Sea Lady” and “The Needle’s Eye” by Byatt’s sister, Margaret Drabble. Both very good.

The house is being painted. Same color as Cynthia originally picked out. Already looking great.

Our bench finally gave out. Kate and Don bought me a new one. Looks great.

Scheduled to climb Pleasant Mountain this Saturday, the 23rd, with Phyllis and dog Abby. Bought some “Off” today for the Ticks.

I planted two German Johnson tomato plants over a week ago. Today I bought some liquid fertilizer.
