What Is So Rare?

What is so rare as a day in June late September or October, for then if ever come the greatest days to enjoy and breathe in the great outdoors. Here in Maine we’ve been having the greatest days the past several days. I’ve gotta get back out there and do some real walking/hiking. (I just got through putting up some Lee Goldsberry signs; Lee is running against Ralph Sarty for State Rep for District 99 here in Maine.) There are NO FREAKING BUGS out any more — no mosquitoes, no black flies, no ticks, and great visibility. You can see everywhere, the distant hills and mountains, the colored (or beginning to be colored) foliage, you name it. I’ve gotta take a little break from politicking even in this critical election year. Anybody else wanta go hiking? 😆

You chose the wrong day for me – our midges are impossible right now! I got eaten alive just going to the shop!!!

OHMAGOD! Midges! We do have them at times but now there’s not a midge anywhere in sight. We are just lucky. Terrible to be eaten alive. Not exactly a pleasant experience I would guess! Hang in there, Dragonstar.

Lovely days, indeed! This is by far my favorite time of year. And thank goodness the early frosts up here in the north country got rid of most of the damned mosquitoes.

Yes, those damned mosquitoes were wrecking havoc, as it were, a few weeks back. Could barely go out of the house without being attacked by the little devils. I think we do have midges at times here too, but not generally. Maybe in early spring? Guess I should google midges!

Oh, I would have loved to been able to trudge around the countryside with you today Dad! It was TORTURE being inside at work today.

Though, the next few days are going to be a different story….

Well, Kate, when you get old as the hills like me, and retired, you know the hills just love ya, and you’ve got time to be friends with your compatriots, the hills. ha ha ha
Yes, in the next few days we may be glad to be inside!

I’m definitely in for a hike. The weather is gorgeous, ever so much more pleasant than our national politics.

Thanks for your comment, BE. It’s great the weather is great where you are. Here the weather has turned suddenly nasty with hurricane Kyle , or the rains from it, bashing us as I write this. And yes, our national politics sure is nasty as well, but Obama did hold his own and was amazingly civil to that old reprobate in the debate last night.

Meri tells me it’s midgy outside and I stay in – they love me and give me something to remember for days after.
Batten down the hatches – good luck with the elements.

Hi Aileni. Those midges must be tough critters alright! On the hurricane we were lucky here in western Maine, and now even in the eastern part of Maine (Down East) it looks like it’s veering further east and into New Brunswick, Canada. But we still get rain, at least into the night.
