A Long, Long Time

Jo Stafford died this month at the age of 90. This song, You Belong to Me takes me back to 1952, a long, long time ago, and brings tears to my eyes as it captures for me that time of my youth, when I was 23 years old.

    This is a beautiful song. I think the version I hear at work nearly every day is by Dean Martin, though.

    It’s interesting they’re playing that song now. Maybe in remembrance of Jo Stafford? Was it Marcel Proust who said music is like a time machine? It puts us back into that past time we could experience in no other way. Or, am I just getting senile? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

    Anyway, as I remember it, here was my response to your Um, I don’t know:

    Thanks, Danielle. Yes, I thought it was about time I found a new and softer theme. I like this Tarski one, although it’s taking me time to get all the features out of it, plus I also upgraded to WP 2.6, and found I could not get to comments! FILES NOT FOUND. It turns out there’s a workaround for this here. Took me a while to find that!

    Hi Mardé,
    First off, what a beautiful new blog look !
    I haven’t heard this song in ages… I can easily imagine your emotion with the passing of Jo Stafford. She is a part of your youth. It’s like my Dad had his idols that he shared with me. I came to love some of the singers of the 4os.
    Once young at heart, always young at heart ;)

    Thanks, Barbara, for your nice comment. Yes, I like the new look here, but I’m still trying to get certain things to work, an endless task it seems!

    Yes, I had forgotten about Jo Stafford and her once familiar old songs. So, as I said in the post, it was great to get transported, as it were, back to those old days. It’s nice your Dad shared his idols with you. It’s interesting to grow old and yet stay the same inside — the body ages while the spirit is immortal! Well, maybe not immortal but at least it doesn’t age like the body. That’s a break!
