ViralTags Improve Rankings

I discovered this on Aldon’s site, Orient Lodge. It seems that your Google Page Rank and your Technorati Rankings do improve when you install these viral tags.

Below is what I copied (from View Source) from Aldon’s site but with two changes. First, I replaced his host tag, Political Social Media, with my host tag, Political Personal Humorous, and then I added my host tag to one of the ViralTags slots below. To use the Viral Tag feature on your own blog site, copy everything below to your site. It’s easiest to use the View Source feature, as Aldon instructed me, to copy it all in one fell swoop. Then replace my host tag with yours and insert yours in a ViralTags slot just as I have done here.

Host Tag: Political Personal Humorous

Important: Once I get a ping back from you (I promise to do the best I can), I will add your anchor text and the associated link you designate as “Host Tag” here, replacing one of the “ViralTags” from the matrix above. As more and more bloggers copy and paste this matrix, the more backlinks you will have with your anchor text. If everybody who copy and paste from your blog does the same, pretty soon this will spread and go viral. So, the sooner you participate, the more links with anchor text you will receive.

OK, it’s been three days now. Have my rankings gone up already? Well, on the first day my statcounter hits went up in a big way. Then on the second day they went down significantly. Yesterday they were almost back to “normal” although slightly above. So it looks like this “reversion to the mean” has a lifetime of about three days. What have I been doing wrong?

I’m just wondering, how come a Viral Tagging can bring in more hits?

Good question, Benedict. If the rankings go up because of the increased number of links to the blog, that doesn’t necessarily mean that the number of hits goes up? What are “hits” anyway? In the statcounter program I use, hits are whenever anyone, or anything, like a search engine, has the blog address in its url, or rather, loads a page in the blog. So, if there are more links to a blog there’s an increased chance of hits?

yea.. there is a chance that your hit might increase. But I would say that might not bring in big noticeable traffic. Does it?

No, it doesn’t bring in big noticeable traffic. You are right. On the first day I did get a big jump in hits, maybe a factor of two, but then by the third day it was back to normal. Of course, I’ve been neglecting the blog in recent days. I bought a new computer and have been spending time installing backups, etc. Without new posts every day people lose interest, I know. Hopefully, I’ll get back on the ball soon.

viral tagging does not bring in more hits its suppose to help your serp and seo positioning but whats they use of it if the site that is on has no pr or serp ratio itself and no traffic?
